Safety Frames

Safety eyewear is protective gear for the eyes, and sometimes face, designed to reduce the risk of injury from radiation, wind blast, heat and impact from particles of debris, just to mention a few. Safety glasses are a necessary tool for all kinds of work.

Since nothing can replace an eye, it is of immense importance to protect the eyes by using safety glasses from anything that might cause an irritation or an injury. Safety glasses frames are usually made of nylon and they usually have side shields to also protect flying materials entering the eyes from the sides.

There are many different kinds of safety glasses, for example the safety googles used by a welder are dark in color to absorb the blinding flash of the welding flame or safety glasses used by a carpenter are transparent and cover the eye from all sides to protect from the wood dust. All safety glasses shield the eyes from hazards.

Safety glasses fall into two categories viz: prescription safety and non-prescription (plano). Regardless of their size or the durability of the frame and lenses, regular prescription eyeglasses do not qualify as safety glasses unless they meet specific criteria. Most people who need prescription safety glasses also wear regular prescription glasses.

Like any tool or piece of equipment, safety glasses must be cared for correctly for them to be effective. Basic care and maintenance include cleaning them daily by rinsing under cool water to remove debris then drying them with a soft cloth. You can also try spraying them with a can of compressed air to remove dust. Avoid abrasive cleaners or rough cloths for these can scratch lenses and make glasses un-wearable.
